Happy New Year! 01-02-2008
A new year is upon us and many people take this time to reflect on the past and plan for the future. It is nice this happens in the middle of winter here, a more somber and serious time, when dreams and thinking of the future (even the near future) can make the slippery walk down the sidewalk and over the snowy bank bearable.
One year I made an impossible resolution. It was back in high school and I felt like I had broken it only a week into the New Year. In truth, I probably hadn't, but when your resolution includes absolutes, you are already setting yourself up for disappointment. It was probably better that I felt I had broken it sooner rather than later. In short, do not use the words "all," "never," or "always" in your resolution, unless you know it is already something you are doing 99% of the time and you are a perfectionist.
One resolution I have is to keep these personal comments to a minimum on this website. If I had wanted a blog, I could be doing it with much less effort required somewhere else than maintaining this website involves. So, I won't be sharing any personal goals for 2008, but I should post at least five I have for this website.
- Post that Fouqué entry that I wrote about two months ago.
- Unlike 2007, update every month.
- Get at least three more letters of the Haimatochare translation up.
- Settle on a color scheme before next Christmas.
- Find a nicer way than the pathetic looking guestbook to give people a way to interact with this site.
If you've been following the picture page and/or gone to the flickr account those pictures are hosted at, you may have noticed a big increase in photos this year. That was a side-effect (a positive one) in my efforts to learn how to use my camera before I went to Europe. No big trips planned this year, but I hope to keep up with some of the picture taking and integrate those pictures on other pages of the website. Please note that this is not in the official list of five, but I think it will be possible.
And with that, a new year begins. Einen guten Rutsch ins neue Jahr, alle!
